Adani Group Faces Massive Rs 2,800 Crore Bill! What This Means for Indian Airports!

The under-recoveries from three airports during the pandemic—Jaipur, Thiruvananthapuram, and Guwahati—have led Adani Airports Holdings Ltd, a division of the Adani Group, to be required to pay the Airports Authority of India (AAI) around Rs 2,800 crore. When guaranteed returns are not met by actual revenue, an under-recovery arises that can be corrected in subsequent tariff cycles. In addition, prior to the handover, Adani is obligated to reimburse AAI for investments made in these airports between 2019 and 2021. Adani has already paid Rs 2,440 crore for the purchase of many airports, including these three, as of November 2021.
