The region has been shaken by the death of TV journalist Mukesh Chandraakar in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh.
Mukesh vanished on January 1st, and his body was discovered in a septic tank on contractor Suresh Chandraakar’s land on January 3rd.
An official investigation was launched against the contractor after it was discovered that Mukesh had disclosed wrongdoing involving Suresh, namely in relation to a road project worth 120 crore.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to look into the crime when the authorities started using bulldozers to destroy Suresh Chandraakar’s unlawful projects after the murder.
This event has brought to light the toxic connection that exists in Bastar between the contractor lobby and the media, where reporters who reveal corruption are frequently threatened and intimidated.
She also insisted that Mukesh’s family receive fair recompense. However, the BJP has accused the Congress of having ties to the contractor in question, asserting that Suresh Chandraakar, the contractor, was previously given a prominent position inside the party by Congress politician Deepak Baij.
Union Minister Tokhan Sahu also expressed his regret over the occurrence and denounced the murder, describing it as an assault on democracy’s fourth pillar.
