After spending almost six months in custody, Arvind Kejriwal recently left Tihar Jail, and it’s obvious he feels more powerful than ever. In his first speech, Kejriwal thanked God and everyone who had supported him during this trying time, even though many had braved intense rain to see him.
Kejriwal discussed his struggles and how he overcame them because of his religion and the people around him. It was intended to shatter his spirit, he said, but instead of breaking, he came out of jail much more determined. Declaring with confidence that he is prepared to keep battling against what he refers to as “anti-national forces” that he believes are attempting to weaken the nation, he said that his strength and spirit have only increased.
In relation to the Delhi liquor scam, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) detained the Chief Minister of Delhi on June 26. On March 21, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had previously detained him in connection with a money-laundering case. On July 12, the Supreme Court granted him interim bail, allowing for his release albeit with limitations.
Kejriwal is subject to stipulations imposed by the Supreme Court during his absence. He has been instructed not to discuss the subject in public, is not permitted to enter the Delhi Secretariat or his office, and cannot sign official documents without the Lieutenant Governor’s approval.
Kejriwal is sending a message of resiliency and rejuvenated vigor to his followers as he steps back into the public front.
