Kailash Gahlot, a senior AAP leader and Delhi Minister, resigned from the party, citing growing internal discord and unmet promises.
The tension between Gahlot and AAP leadership began in August over the unfurling of the national flag during the Independence Day celebrations.
In the absence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Lt Governor, VK Saxena, designated Gahlot to perform the ceremony instead of Atishi, the then Education Minister, leading to a public rift.
Gahlot’s compliance with the Lt Governor’s decision strained his relationship with Kejriwal and the party. Additionally, Gahlot’s portfolio was later reassigned to Atishi, further deepening the divide.
In his resignation letter, Gahlot criticized the party for failing to deliver on key promises, like cleaning the Yamuna river, and for being distracted by internal power struggles and political agendas.
The BJP seized the opportunity to criticize AAP’s internal disarray, framing Gahlot’s exit as evidence of the party’s failure to govern effectively.
